RBT requirements in Wyoming

Wyoming does not license behavior technicians. Since 2022, a behavior technician who works under a licensed behavior analyst or licensed assistant behavior analyst may practice without a license, but may not design assessment or intervention plans and must use a title showing unlicensed status.

The rules that affect RBTs

  • Wyoming has no state credential for behavior technicians.
  • W.S. 33-27-125(a)(viii), created by HB0110 (Enrolled Act No. 18, 2022), lets a behavior technician who delivers behavior analysis services under the supervision of a licensed behavior analyst or licensed assistant behavior analyst practice without a license.
  • Services assigned to a technician "shall not include designing assessment or intervention plans or procedures".
  • The technician may not represent themselves as licensed and may use only titles that communicate unlicensed status, such as "applied behavior analysis technician", "behavior technician" or "tutor".
  • Behavior analysts and assistant behavior analysts are licensed by the Wyoming State Board of Psychology.

BACB requirements apply everywhere

Whatever the state adds, RBT certification itself is the same in every state: the 40-hour training, the Initial Competency Assessment, the BACB exam, and ongoing supervision of at least 5% of your service hours each month. In Wyoming, your supervising BCBA must also hold the state license. Your employer and the programs that pay for services, such as Medicaid or insurers, can have their own requirements too.
