RBT requirements in Wisconsin

Wisconsin licenses behavior analysts through the Department of Safety and Professional Services. It has no state credential for behavior technicians, so for an RBT the BACB certification is the credential that counts.

The rules that affect RBTs

  • Wisconsin has no state credential for behavior technicians.
  • The Department of Safety and Professional Services lists a "Behavior Analyst" credential under Wis. Stat. ch. 440 and no technician credential (checked October 28, 2026).

BACB requirements apply everywhere

Whatever the state adds, RBT certification itself is the same in every state: the 40-hour training, the Initial Competency Assessment, the BACB exam, and ongoing supervision of at least 5% of your service hours each month. In Wisconsin, your supervising BCBA must also hold the state license. Your employer and the programs that pay for services, such as Medicaid or insurers, can have their own requirements too.
