RBT requirements in Oklahoma

Oklahoma has no state credential for behavior technicians. Technicians work as "supervisees" under the extended authority of a licensed behavior analyst and may provide ABA only under that analyst's supervision. From November 1, 2026, licensing of behavior analysts moves to the State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, and the supervisee rules stay the same.

The rules that affect RBTs

  • Oklahoma has no state credential for behavior technicians.
  • 59 O.S. Section 1928 defines a "supervisee" as a person who acts under the extended authority of a licensed behavior analyst to provide ABA services, or a person in training to provide them.
  • "Supervisees may only provide applied behavior analysis under the supervision of a licensed behavior analyst" (59 O.S. Section 1928).
  • SB 1557 (2026), approved May 12, 2026 and effective November 1, 2026, moves licensing of behavior analysts and certification of assistant behavior analysts from the Department of Human Services to the State Board of Examiners of Psychologists and keeps the supervisee provisions.
  • SB 1557 also adds a national criminal history record check for behavior analyst and assistant behavior analyst applicants.

BACB requirements apply everywhere

Whatever the state adds, RBT certification itself is the same in every state: the 40-hour training, the Initial Competency Assessment, the BACB exam, and ongoing supervision of at least 5% of your service hours each month. In Oklahoma, your supervising BCBA must also hold the state license. Your employer and the programs that pay for services, such as Medicaid or insurers, can have their own requirements too.
