RBT requirements in Ohio
Ohio has no state credential for behavior technicians. Technicians are exempt when they are supervised by, and act under the authority and direction of, a certified Ohio behavior analyst. Ohio also sets its own supervision rules, including a written supervision plan for each client.

The rules that affect RBTs
- Ohio has no state credential for behavior technicians; behavior analysts hold a Certified Ohio Behavior Analyst certificate from the Ohio State Board of Psychology.
- Ohio Adm.Code 4783-5-01(B)(4) exempts an individual practicing ABA who is supervised by a certified Ohio behavior analyst and acts under that analyst's authority and direction.
- The certified Ohio behavior analyst must write a supervision plan for each client naming everyone implementing the plan and the amount and type of training and supervision (Ohio Adm.Code 4783-6-02).
- Supervision must at minimum include consultation before the plan starts and before it is modified, training on implementation and data collection, and periodic direct observation of each supervisee with performance feedback.
- The analyst may not delegate assessment, treatment-plan development, data review and plan modification, training of implementers, or record keeping, and must determine each implementer's competence.
BACB requirements apply everywhere
Whatever the state adds, RBT certification itself is the same in every state: the 40-hour training, the Initial Competency Assessment, the BACB exam, and ongoing supervision of at least 5% of your service hours each month. In Ohio, your supervising BCBA must also hold the state license. Your employer and the programs that pay for services, such as Medicaid or insurers, can have their own requirements too.
