RBT requirements in Mississippi
Mississippi requires behavior technicians to be registered with the Mississippi Autism Board, and the registration requires current BACB RBT certification. Your supervising licensed behavior analyst or assistant behavior analyst registers you within seven days and pays the $25 fee. You are not separately licensed: you work under your supervisor's license, and your supervisor is responsible for your conduct.

The rules that affect RBTs
- Credential: behavior technician registration with the Mississippi Autism Board; the rules define a behavior technician as someone currently certified by the BACB as an RBT (Miss. Admin. Code Title 30, Part 3301, Rules 1.3(F), 9.3(D)).
- The supervising licensed behavior analyst or licensed assistant behavior analyst submits the application through the Board's system with the $25 fee (Rules 9.3(A), 10.2).
- The registering licensee must determine that the technician is at least 18, of good moral character, has at least a high school diploma or equivalent, has adequate communication skills and holds current RBT qualifications; no examination is required (Rule 9.3(C)-(D)).
- Registration is due within seven days of employment or of BACB RBT certification, and failure to register can lead to discipline of the licensee (Rules 9.3(B), 7.1(W), July 2025 rule revision).
- A behavior technician is not a separately licensed professional and works solely under the license of the behavior analyst, who is responsible for all of the technician's conduct (Rules 9.1, 9.5).
- Supervisors must follow BACB supervision requirements, and the Board may audit supervision records; technicians must follow BACB practice restrictions (Rules 9.3(E), 9.6).
- The supervising licensee must record the end of supervision in the Board's system within seven days (Rule 9.4), and the Board keeps a public register of registered behavior technicians (Rule 9.2(C)).

BACB requirements apply everywhere
Whatever the state adds, RBT certification itself is the same in every state: the 40-hour training, the Initial Competency Assessment, the BACB exam, and ongoing supervision of at least 5% of your service hours each month. In Mississippi, your supervising BCBA must also hold the state license. Your employer and the programs that pay for services, such as Medicaid or insurers, can have their own requirements too.
