RBT requirements in Arkansas

Arkansas has no state credential for behavior technicians. Its Behavior Analyst Registration Act creates only a "registered behavior analyst" title registration with the Arkansas Psychology Board and does not mention technicians, so RBTs have nothing to register with the state.

The rules that affect RBTs

  • Arkansas has no state license, registration or certification for behavior technicians.
  • Act 432 of 2025 (Ark. Code 17-97-601 to 17-97-608) creates a "registered behavior analyst" title registration with the Arkansas Psychology Board; it is a title registration, not a license.
  • The law restricts only use of the title "registered behavior analyst" (17-97-603) and does not mention behavior technicians.
  • Act 869 of 2025 (approved April 17, 2025) opened the registration to BACB-certified BCBAs and BCBA-Ds and to QABA Qualified Behavior Analysts; it also creates no technician credential.

BACB requirements apply everywhere

Whatever the state adds, RBT certification itself is the same in every state: the 40-hour training, the Initial Competency Assessment, the BACB exam, and ongoing supervision of at least 5% of your service hours each month. In Arkansas, your supervising BCBA must also hold the state license. Your employer and the programs that pay for services, such as Medicaid or insurers, can have their own requirements too.
