The rules that affect RBTs
- South Carolina has no state credential for behavior technicians and does not license behavior analysts.
- S. 630 and companion H. 3731 (2021-2022 session) would have licensed behavior analysts under the counselor board and exempted behavior technicians; S. 630 never left the Senate Committee on Labor, Commerce and Industry.
- S.C. Code Title 40, Chapter 75 contains no behavior analysis provisions (checked October 28, 2026).
BACB requirements apply everywhere
Whatever the state adds, RBT certification itself is the same in every state: the 40-hour training, the Initial Competency Assessment, the BACB exam, and ongoing supervision of at least 5% of your service hours each month. Your employer and the programs that pay for services, such as Medicaid or insurers, can have their own requirements too. See how to become an RBT.
