RBT requirements in Michigan
Michigan issues no license or registration for behavior technicians, but its Public Health Code sets conditions on who may work as one. A behavior technician is exempt from licensure when carrying out a care plan under the delegation and supervision of a behavior analyst and meeting the requirements in section 18263 of the Code.

The rules that affect RBTs
- Michigan has no state license or registration for behavior technicians.
- MCL 333.18251 defines a "behavior technician" as someone not licensed under the behavior analyst part who delivers ABA services under the delegation and supervision of a behavior analyst and meets the requirements of section 18263.
- A behavior technician implementing a care plan under that delegation and supervision is exempt from behavior analyst licensure (MCL 333.18251).
- Licensure of behavior analysts has been required since January 7, 2020; licenses are issued by the Michigan Board of Behavior Analysts (LARA).
BACB requirements apply everywhere
Whatever the state adds, RBT certification itself is the same in every state: the 40-hour training, the Initial Competency Assessment, the BACB exam, and ongoing supervision of at least 5% of your service hours each month. In Michigan, your supervising BCBA must also hold the state license. Your employer and the programs that pay for services, such as Medicaid or insurers, can have their own requirements too.
