RBT requirements in Indiana

Indiana has no state credential for behavior technicians. The state licensing agency says plainly that it does not issue RBT certifications and sends RBT applicants to the BACB.

The rules that affect RBTs

  • Indiana has no state credential for behavior technicians.
  • The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency's FAQ answers "I do not see a license for RBT, where do I apply?" with "RBT certifications are not issued by our office" and directs applicants to the BACB.
  • Indiana licenses Licensed Behavior Analysts (LBA) and Licensed Assistant Behavior Analysts (LABA) through the Professional Licensing Agency's Behavior Analyst Committee (IC 25-8.5).

BACB requirements apply everywhere

Whatever the state adds, RBT certification itself is the same in every state: the 40-hour training, the Initial Competency Assessment, the BACB exam, and ongoing supervision of at least 5% of your service hours each month. In Indiana, your supervising BCBA must also hold the state license. Your employer and the programs that pay for services, such as Medicaid or insurers, can have their own requirements too.
