RBT requirements in Delaware
Delaware does not license behavior technicians or behavior analysts in general practice. For state-regulated insurance coverage of autism treatment, though, only BCBAs or the "behavioral technicians" they supervise may provide ABA, and the supervising BCBA must verify a list of technician qualifications, including background checks, training and CPR. These are coverage standards, not a credential you apply for.

The rules that affect RBTs
- Delaware has no state license, registration or certification for behavior technicians and no general behavior analyst license.
- For autism insurance coverage, 16 Del. Admin. Code 2102 allows only BCBAs or BCBA-Ds, or behavioral technicians they supervise, to provide ABA; the supervising BCBA verifies the technician's qualifications.
- The technician needs a high school diploma or GED and must have passed federal and state criminal background checks and child and adult abuse registry checks.
- The technician needs annual CPR certification, an annual signed statement on Delaware's mandatory child abuse reporting law, and a signed HIPAA statement.
- Training: a course on autism spectrum disorders and a course on ABA principles (from a BACB-authorized CE provider, an accredited college, or an ABA or behavioral health agency, with an agency course taught by a BCBA or BCBA-D), plus competency-based training verified by the supervising BCBA (a current BCaBA meets this).
- The technician needs at least 10 hours of observed competency-based training and direct service before providing one-on-one service.
- Supervision must be at least 1.5 hours per 10 hours of the technician's direct treatment each week, and at least 1 hour a week when fewer than 10 hours of ABA a week are prescribed and delivered (16 Del. Admin. Code 2102-3.3.1).
BACB requirements apply everywhere
Whatever the state adds, RBT certification itself is the same in every state: the 40-hour training, the Initial Competency Assessment, the BACB exam, and ongoing supervision of at least 5% of your service hours each month. Your employer and the programs that pay for services, such as Medicaid or insurers, can have their own requirements too. See how to become an RBT.
