RBT exam accommodations

If you have a current disability, you can ask the BACB for accommodations on the RBT exam. The request goes in with your certification application, and you should wait for the BACB's answer before you book the exam.

Who qualifies

Accommodations are available to people with a current disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or a comparable human rights law in their country.

What to submit

  • The BACB Examination Accommodation Request Form.
  • Documentation from a qualified professional, such as a physician, a school official, a licensed psychiatrist or a licensed psychologist. It must identify the disability and state the need for the accommodations you're asking for.

Examples of acceptable documentation include official letters, reports of test results, and records of accommodations you've received before, including for standardized tests (for example a previous IEP, or documentation from another organization like the BACB).

When and how

Upload the form and documentation while you complete your certification application in your BACB portal account. The BACB reviews the request, which typically takes 10 to 14 days; if it needs more documentation, that takes longer.

Don't schedule your exam until you get the BACB's email with the outcome of your request and instructions for scheduling.

Language

The exam is only offered in English, and translators or interpreters (in print, electronic or in person) are allowed at the test center only with an approved accommodation.

Practising with your accommodations

If you'll have extra time or other changes, practise under the same conditions. Our mock exams use the standard 90-minute timer, so for a longer approved time, use the untimed practice tests and time yourself to your own limit. Every question on this site also has a read-aloud button that uses your browser's built-in speech.
